ABOUT US
Hi! I’m Kayla Dare, a Professional Music Teacher with over 20 years of experience. I teach students of all ages and levels, from young beginners to advanced high schoolers and adults.
I studied under University of Iowa T.A., Suzanne Oemig in high school, and FBBC Music Professor Tim LaFleur. Their mentorship prepared me to win State TFC competitions two consecutive years, earning scholarships and the opportunity to perform at the Hilton Coliseum during the TFC Nationals results program. Additionally, I placed 1st and 2nd for consecutive local piano competitions, advancing to the Iowa State Fair. During college, I was frequently invited to perform and accompany at major campus events, music student recitals, conferences, “Evening of Classics,” student body gatherings, graduation, and traveling to accompany for the college.
Beyond college, I have performed as a pianist for Von Maur, as well as for many weddings, celebrations of life, Teas, volunteering, worship, retreats, and conferences. I was also selected to represent the Music Department by performing for a visiting professional pianist, a tremendous honor in front of my peers.
My teaching style blends kindness with structure. I use an all-in-one method book course as a foundation while also encouraging students to learn the songs they truly love. I believe the heart of piano pedagogy is helping students develop a lifelong love for music.
My students have thrived by choosing a fun piece or song to complement their core studies, making lessons both productive and inspiring.
My four-part teaching approach focuses on technique, note reading, strategic note naming, and reviewing past recital pieces to build a strong, memorized repertoire. My hope is that I can truly enhance the lives of my students and their families through the joy of sharing music with others.
